chicken with chronic sour crop
Roo, 10 months old, small breed of lavender Orpington. Seems like the issue started after he got fly strike, and I doctored him back to health. I have tried:
Miconazole, yes, for days
Digest gold enzyme
Yogurt, pumpkin,egg
Ivermectin
Rooster booster, oregano, red pepper
Crop bra
He will go for four or five days then his crop gets full again- start process all over
Except this time, his body did not digest the scrambled egg
He IS pooping
Any ideas maybe a different brand of enzyme or different brand of miconazole (I use Walmart)
I can’t bring myself to cull him bcz he never acts like he’s sick. He just keeps going

For Sour Crop, I use Miconazole or Clotrimazole twice a day for 7 days in a row. Some folks use Nystatin or Acidified Copper Sulfate.

Do you see any lesions or canker inside the beak which would require a different approach?

Sometimes a crop issue is a symptom of an underlying condition. Infection, worms and Coccidiosis are a few. Consider deworming with an anthelmintic like Fenbendazole or Albendazole. Treating for Coccidiosis with Amprolium may be helpful as well.

To treat most worms that poultry can have except for Tapeworm you can use Safeguard (Fenbendazole) or Valbazen (Albendazole). Both are given orally by weight; they do not mix well with water.

Safeguard 10% Liquid Goat Dewormer or Equine Paste (10%) dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days in a row.
---OR---
Valbazen (Albendazole) dose is 0.08ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeated in 10 days.

Here's how to give oral medications:

Liquid Corid (Amprolium) dose is 2tsp or Powdered Corid Dose is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.
Do not add any extra vitamins/electrolytes that contain B1(Thiamine) to food or water during the course of treatment.
