Chronically Late people

When I married my hubby, he was chronically uninterested in appointment times. La la la la la. It drove me nuts. Nothing I did or said made a difference.

Soooo....I started leaving him behind.

The one that started the turnaround was that we were going to a nice dinner at a spendy place and had reservations at 6. We need to leave at 5:30. At 5:29 he had not even started to get ready so I called his daughter and as luck would have it, she was free. I left him, picked her up and we enjoyed a lovely steak and lobster dinner. (His favorite meal in the world)

After that, he started making an effort to be on time.

Now he is known to be early to appointments. I am so proud.

EVER? Well that's a bit drastic. Things do happen, accidents, sudden illness, emergencies, breaking down, etc.

Yeah perhaps the "ever" was a bit much. But accidents and traffic jams do not = CHRONICALLY late, ya know? I'm pretty sure most of us can tell the difference in the person who was late once or twice, and the person (like the OP describes) who doesn't even notice how their chronic lateness infringes on other people's lives.

My aunt/uncle on my mom's side (her only brother) were chronically late to family functions. By the time I was 14 or so I had figured out that they had plenty of time to spend with their friend's kids, but none to spend with us. When a kid can see where their value/importance in someone's life is.....well

That's a kinda rude and broad reaching stereotype. I am far from narcissistic and I don't enjoy being late.

I agree with 6chix, except for the ever part. There are emergencies that happen, but in those situations you can't really blame someone, unless they don't even bother to call. That really REALLY bothers me.

As for sune42 saying what 6chix said as being rude...yeah, it was kind of harsh, but I think that it's even more rude to be chronically late all the time, and unless you have an emergency all the time there really is NO excuse for it...ever.

My opinion?
Folks that are chronically late are rude selfish people. (barring those that have a REAL disability that REALLY prevents them from reading/understanding a clock)
They ARE rude and selfish because they dont REALLY care that someone has taken THEIR time to be on time to meet you ....and they DONT really care that others are sitting there WAITING for them....OTHER peoples time means nothing to them. Or they wouldnt take advantage of people like they do..
No... they simply dont REALLY care. It really IS as simple as that... really...

And no, there IS no excuse for it to happen all the time.... again... barring REAL disability or some random drama... car accident.. crazy traffic... etc..
My opinion? They do it because they CAN... they have been ALLOWED to get away with such blatant disrespect.... they have been INVITED back time and time again.... STILL showing up late and simply NOT really caring how it affects others.
SOoooo.. my opinion? If you let it continue... well....

Ever hear the saying.. Fool me once, shame on you.... fool me twice, shame on me....?
