Ciao from the Land of the Rain (aka Washington state)! I hope you find many informative threads here to help you in your endeavor of obtaining, raising, and enjoying chickens! Most of us here are addicted... it's easy to do once you start delving into chicken math!

Yes, our house is lovely and Italy itself is wonderful - I think it's the people who make it so, as well as some stunning scenery. I keep meaning to start a blog as it seems a good way to share pics and goings-on so if I do, I will post a link somewhere (if that's allowed).

In terms of our chickens, I'm reading about various breeds at the moment and one of the things I am most aware of is the extreme heat (100+ degrees F) in summer and cold (four feet of snow last year) in winter. I need to get to a farmers' market I think, and look at local breeds.

People in our small community think we are a little mad for wanting to raise hens and not eat them. So I'm up for yet another period of culture-ideas swapping!

Welcome, Cath, from Missouri, USA. I knew nothing of raising any kind of poultry till I joined here almost five years ago. Just remember.......nothing anyone tells you in written in stone. lol Chickens are hardy souls and forgiving so you will do fine. All you need to learn is on here and then apply it to your situation/needs. You will also develop many friends on here.
 
Hello Cath and welcome! Sounds like you live in a beautiful place. I would just love to see pictures! I've never been to Italy but my parents have, once on a cruise that went to Venice, Rome and Italy.
