Cider Vinegar, treats and Ducklings

This is the only thing I've found stops preds.. last night after cold snap down to teens two packs of dogs came through trying to get my birds! the young ACD is starting to finally take her garding duties seriously, and stayed with the hen ducks that flocked to her when a black dog attacked. collie is off fighting with. last night was awful and we got no sleep, but they rarely attack once subrise comes, and scatter when they see me. the ree of mine ran down cornered then chewed the heck out pf a big black one, but i had to call them off cause i couldn't take sound of it screaming, but wasn't hurt too bad as came back later that night. i shoulda let them kill it probly or had a gun to put it down

That's great you have dogs to protect. i hope to have 1 or 2 eventually that will protect mine.

Though it is not a happy story, exactly, it is good to read how your guard dogs do their jobs - and the kinds of challenges they have, and rise to.

One of my dreams is to have a LGD someday. In the meantime, I am the LGA.

We keep the ducks in pens much of the time, or I walk with them around our gardens. I have found that Carmella is a real airhead when it is time to take cover. So maybe I will add a herding dog to my dream - one who will make sure everyone gets out of harm's way.

I think your dachshunds have the right idea myself

but I can see that you have to be on your guard.

The ACV arrived today, I had to send off for it as the pet store didn't stock it. It says 10ml - 20ml in a litre of water on the label, so I was there with a measuring jug filling the water container to get it spot on! The grit still hasn't arrived but will hopefully turn up on Monday, again the pet store only had the oyster shell. Thank God for eBay!
