I was trying to figure that out too! I don't know if it is once they have officially pipped or when they break the air cell inside? I don't know, but I wish it were a faster process! My last 2 hatches were so fast! They were all out within one day! This group is taking FOREVER! But then again, mine all all due on different days! I didn't realize she was sitting and everyone had been adding eggs everyday. So some look about 1 week behind the others. I am hoping that having 2 broodies will help. If one takes the babies, hopefully the other will stay on the remaining eggs. If not, looks like I will have to come up with something fast!

Bec sorry to hear about your baby. I got up to 14 in the incubator there were so many that the humidity was over 80% DH and I took 12 out and left the other 2 in as they looked like they were still very wet. Now there are two more. Yeah some of my orps hatched. I was beginning to think my rooster was sterile. I have one that I am watching. The egg has a big hole in it but he doesn't seem to be progressing. I misted the egg but still nothing. My last hatch I waited and waited before I helped out two chicks, One poor thing never did straighten out it was curled up so tight. The other made it OK. This time if I don't see progress I will not wait that long. DD has 4 golden polish she is excited. will keep you updated. Micki

I HAVE A CHICK!!!!!

Of course he hatched when I left to go to the feed store. I figured. I say he...but I really don't know what it is. I have three others cracked now. DH noticed that the forth was cracked when he was home for lunch. It seems very healthy. Runny around then naps...runny again. DD will be so happy!

4 out of 5...not bad odds. Though only one has made it. I do also have one that has a hole but hasn't done much sense. How long do you wait until you poke around? Still waiting!

Maybe when the chick is dry and ready to come out I will look at the eggs if they haven't progressed.

Congratulations Southern eggs I am so glad. Your daughter will be over the moon. I hope some wait for her to get home from school so she can see them hatch. I',m still waiting on 4 that are pipped I don't remember the last hatch taking this long lol.

Well...We have three!

We lost one. Don't know what happened. It was peeping but then nothing for a long time.

Just hatched two. They are drying. The first one is running around. It can't come out yet but it was pecking the others.

So as long as things go well...we have three!

DD is so happy. She wants to take out the older one so I'm trying to hold her off.

BEC - It's great to hear that there's another! Hopefully this one will have a better start.

Congratulations!!! How excited was your DD??

I FINALLY have a baby!!! I went out to check and sure enough, it was just pushing out of the shell!!!! A perfect little baby! No problems this time! yay!
