Cindi's Chicken Chronicles

What a great thread about Chickadee and the accompanying "drumettes!"
She has obviously awarded you with the medal of trust - and spread the word! 😆
Will she eat out of your hand?
Thank you for your kind comment! I am very grateful that Chickadee decided to adopt me and share so much of her life with me 💕 I'd like to think that she enjoys it here, since she keeps inviting the neighborhood chickens to live in my backyard with her 😅 Surpsingly, I've never tried feeding her out of my hand... I'll have to try that sometime!

Safe Place

Yesterday afternoon, I went out to my backyard to feed Cinnamon & her little ones. While I was out there, something must've scared them, because all of the chicks scattered. One of the chicks took me by surprise and flew up onto my head and decided to perch there. I considered it a huge compliment that she thought of me as a "safe place".

Here's a photo of the little chick that perched on my head. Isn't she the cutest?! 😍

Here's the photo of her perched on my head 😂 Sorry for the bad quality, I snapped this photo really quick.

These stories are so insightful and amazing to hear! Your stories of Chickadee and the rest of your flock are so enlightening and I can’t wait to hear more. I think I’ve heard that Hawaii has their own ‘indigenous’ breeds of games which I think they are. :)

Thank you for reading along! I'm glad you enjoyed the stories that I've shared. I heard that the chickens here in Hawaii are a relative of the Red Jungle Fowl, but I'm sure that a lot of them are a mix of different breeds. One day, I'll have to share photos I've taken of the wild chickens at the park!

The Time I Befriended a Wild Rooster

There's a park not far from where I live, that is full of wild chickens. Last October, I started visiting the park regularly because it allowed me to get out of the house for a bit and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.

When I first started visiting the park, there was a flock of six that caught my attention right away. They were a bit younger (maybe 5-6 months old) and weren't afraid to come up to me for food. Some of them would even fly up onto my lap or perch on my arm and shoulder. This was exciting for me because while the chickens at my house are friendly, they aren't the cuddly type.

There was on cockerel in the flock, that befriended me immediately. During my visits to the park, he was always the first to greet me. He enjoyed flying up onto my lap and being pet & cuddled. He also enjoyed perching on my shoulder as I walked around and fed the chickens at the park. I ended up naming him Liv.

I visited Liv & his flockmates regularly from October 2020-February 2021. In January, he disappeared for a bit, but he reappeared two weeks later! It was quite the surprise seeing him and being able to spend time with him at the park again. Then in February, he disappeared again and I haven’t see him since. I think now that he’s older, he has started to venture to other parts of the park and probably has his own flock of hens that he watches over. I miss visiting with him, but I know that he’s all grown up now and probably has little Liv’s running around!

Hopefully one day I’ll be able to post an update on Liv, I'd love to be able to see him again!

I hope you'll enjoy these photo of Liv the Roo:
