Cinnamon Queen not coming out of coop

A lot depends on your climate. You will want hardy birds for your area.

They will need penned up for at least a few weeks. Longer if your rooster is a bit pushy.

They need to learn where home is. Once quarantine is done they may need closed in the coop for a week so they know that's home.

When training new hens I only let them range for an hour before dark the first month so they don't roam far. It helps them find home.

Bringing in chicks if your hen is not broody means you are raising them not her. A non broody hen is a real danger to chicks.

This time of year craigslist is an option for finding pullets.

I would go with birds listed as heavy breeds like Australorp, giant cochin or brahma. These have been my most docile breeds. I would stay clear of more dominant breeds like rhode island reds, barred rock, any sex link and wyandottes. They tend to be very pushy and your docile girl would likely end up picked on.

I really hope for the best for your girl.

Well they are both on the larger side but not fat just big chickens. I let them free range from sun rise to set and they have hen scratch available anytime as well as about 2 times a week I will give them about a quarter cup of dried worms as a treat. They have always been on this same type of feeding schedule and we only started having issues with her laying since her mom and sister passed within a few months of each other. There are no predators that I can tell as I am home all day and watched also looking for signs of other animals around the coop etc but nothing. She will come out once a week maybe but just comes up to the back patio and hangs out on the bench for a bit. Then she is back to the coop. I got a couple ceramic eggs and placed them in a nesting box where she used to lay and she sat on them a couple times but not much else. I'm definitely wanting to add a few hens but not sure if babies are the way to go or grown hens. My girl is very sweet and kind of timid and I'm scared other grown hens will be mean to her. When her mom and sister were still living she was the runt or less aggressive of the bunch. Would she possibly try to mother babies? Or would she kill them? I'm just not cut out for this chicken business lol. I love them feathery butt heads too much and just want them to have their best little chicken peckin life possible.
I’d get little ones so ya know they won’t bully her. Best of luck and they will be fine I’d go get about six little pulley make everyone happy. Keep us posted plz

I would get day old chicks and raise them in a brooder til they reach 2 weeks or so, then integrate them to your hen and rooster. I think it's best to introduce young baby chicks, that way your hen won't be intimidated or get bullied and it might liven her up a little to teach them chicken stuff instead of being coop'd up all day in her.... coop.

They would still need added heat at 2 weeks. They would also still be intruders.

A non broody hen will teach them to RUN and that's about all she will teach. Life is brutal for the small.

I put mine in with big hens about two wks no major issues. I do not continue heat at that point either. They do fine
