I received two hens and a coop from a friend that moved away around Aug. 8, 2014. These girl had not started laying yet. Is was any day until they did. Finally they started around Aug. 22. I have been getting two eggs ever since then with maybe a 2-3 day pause when I moved the coop to a bigger spot. I believe they are happy birds. I let them out of the run when I can keep an eye on them. The girls name are Peep and Flap. Peep looks to be a leghorn that lays brown eggs. Flap is a RIR also lays brown eggs. I never know about chickens so with some research on the internet and mostly on Backyardchicken.com I have learn to take care of my girls in the city. I will attach pictures so all can see the beautiful hens that I have. Well they make me happy and my kids too.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Aww! Your two girls are so cute!! Love their names! Yes Peep is a leghorn for sure. Flap looks like a rhode island red.

Good luck with them and welcome to our flock!

We're glad to have you.

If Peep looks like a Leghorn and lays brown eggs, then she's probably a White Plymouth Rock (which look like chunkier versions of Leghorns and lay brown eggs). Flap does look like a hatchery quality Rhode Island Red, often called a Production Red.

Good luck with them!
