Greetings and salutations! I am so excited to be a part of BackYard Chickens. I married a farmer (this October will be 20 years) and thought we'd be on the family farm by now. However, my in-laws love the country and are still on the farm. My husband and I live in town ( population 1400) and I finally purchased hens! I have always wanted them. My country friend told me to buy one more than I wanted because one would probably die. Went to the farm store to buy my five plus one and left with the minimum ten! Gave one to my country friend because it was a broiler and not a layer so now I have my nine girls. I do not know what they are, which makes me a real city slicker. They finally moved out to the coop that is in the garage as I don't want them out in the cold just yet. They were in our shower (don't judge
). Some are all black and one is brown with some light brown stripes and some are red. Most are named. Looking forward to learning a lot from BYC.
