Our hen house is unheated, so we will be switching from a regular 40 watt bulb to a clear 250 infared lamp once the nighttime temps drop below freezing regularly.
Right now, darkness comes (everyone's in bed) by 7:30pm so I have the light set to turn on at 2AM and remain on until 9AM. That way I take advantage of the heat cast off from the light.
We have 19 hens and are getting 14 eggs a day so far. These gals are all just 24 weeks old.
