Class B CDL

Rebel has some good advice. I worked my way through my B class and my A class on the job, no schooling. But more companies are only hiring schooled drivers, less of a liability I guess. I work for a local delivery company, but we are nationwide, delivering convenient store goods. Another good industry for hands on work is beer/soda deliveries. Most have need for B or A class drivers, and if you start with B you can usually work up to A. Bus driving is good for B class, just pays low (usually around $10/hr). I have been driving professionally for over 15 years now and love it.

Even garbage truck drivers...they make pretty good money too.
Actually in the garbage industry you can do pretty good as a owner/operator. Local guy bought a truck an sent out fliers. Charges $20 a house, $30 cheaper than the big guys. We have 7 communities in the county an he does one a day. Not sure if he serves all 7 or not. He is here on Mondays.

Hes expenses is insurance, fuel, maintenance an scale fees at the county dump. Dont think crusher truck. Any truck can hall garbage. You can do that with a regular pickup an a big trailer. He now has a crusher truck, a loader person an a bookkeeper an he just drives.

My options are to drive to the city every time I have 7 bags an stink up my suburban or pay the big guy $50 a month or pay him an his old truck $20 a month. I am happy to pay the man $20 a month

I know this is an old thread but if the opening poster or anyone else is interested in truck driving there is a guy who is an OTR (over the road) truck driver whom does daily video logs (vlogs) on you tube he has his own "channel' it's called big rig talk he talks about different things, about different companies, how they pay different schools, in essence he tells you what to look out for so you won't get scammed, also he talks in some about scams done in truck stop and rest stop scams, and how to avoid being robbed. also what you need to take with you to save money on the road. also he has driving videos, in some he shows as he picks up/drops off a trailer how to do a pre-trip/post trip inspection. also suggestions on how to plan the trip so you don't get DOT on your case for being over hours when trying to get to a delivery stop or truck stop to sleep at night. his you tube channel is here https://www.youtube.com/user/BigRigTalk
