My daughters are showing in the fair next month and I have gotten ZERO help from the regional 4H office. aghhhhh

They have a few birds that I do not know what to classify them as-

Partridge Rock- I understand he is a "Rock" but they don't even have that category?

Isa-Browns?

Any help on 4H showing and classifications would be VERY helpful!

All "rocks" are in the American class, then the individual varieties will be grouped together, if it is done the same way we do it here in Oregon. The entry form will probably ask the age of the bird.

Since it is a 4H show, they may or may not use APA/ABA classifications, and they may or may not have production birds such as the Isa Browns. Do you have, or can you get an entry form and tell us what all is asks? We can probably help you better with that information.

For your partridge rock, going by APA standards, if it is largefowl, it falls under the American class, Plymouth Rock s the breed, partridge is the variety and it is either a cock, hen, cockerel or pullet based upon gender and age. If it is a bantam, it falls under SCCL class, but the rest is the same.

as far as i know we here don't have classification the birds are put into groups such as barred rocks go against other barred rocks. had 2 d'uccle last year a milli and a self blue and they weren't judge together but separately based on color not breed.

What are your choices? At the last fair we did, they had very general divisions: Heavyweight, Lightweight, Bantam Single Comb, Bantam feather legged, Bantam all other combs, and Utility.

Let us know what choices you have and we can help you put the birds in the right spots. If it is like mine was, your rock would be a heavyweight poultry and your Isa would be a utility.
