Clean out of pvc with a y

Those with a pvc feeder with a y how often do you clean out the feed in the bottom? Or do you wait till it's compleat you empty before re filling?

I pour it out into a feed bag every few weeks when I see its low (not every time its low), refill with fresh and top off with the stuff from the bottom.
