Cleaned coop, can I put a mixture of sevin & DE on the floor?

Quote:
Simple solution, Sue. Don`t waste your money on DE at all. Just use powdered Sevin Dust. DE isn`t worth the effort to pour it out. Sevin is safe, even for baby chicks and broody hens.......Pop

I second that opinion. DE is worthless.

PermaGuard makes a DE that is EPA certified for insect control. They recommend 5% in feed, use at full strength in dusting boxes for chickens.

If you look at DE under a microscope, it's a cylinder with sharp points all over it. These points are supposed to cut through the insect's hard body shell and kill them. I used it in my house when I was pregnant and the dog brought in fleas (hubby had slacked on her flea meds). It worked somewhat with the fleas. I know it worked darn well when ladybugs crawled over a large amount of it.

DE is already added to most animal grains for insect control, it's even in some of our food.

First, Some say DE is a waste of money and some say it works very well. I consider both to be opinions.

It does work for some things like killing some types of insects and absorbing moisture

It does NOT work for internal parasites, and that is a scientific fact, not an opinion.

Thanks for all the advice, I too am not comfortable using a chemical for insect control. That's one of the reasons I got chickens, I know what they eat...and what they are exposed to!
