cleaned pasty bums, now vents seem red and swollen???

Scratchin' Around :

Well, I cleaned them all and everyone seems fine today. But now I've noticed one or two others who seems to be a bit poopy too. I don't get why--they don't seem to have diarrhea. Their poop seems normal, but sometimes on some of them, it seems to get stuck in their fuzz, and then once one poop sticks, it seems to create a domino effect. Any ideas why it's happening, or how to prevent?

Brillcream......A little dabba do ya!

Don't spend to much time worrying about it. Chicks will not have what you would call clean butts to begin with. Having a dirty butt is not really a problem. I have full grown hens that the feathers around their vent is disgusting. I've tried leaving real small pieces of toilet paper for them but they never seem to wipe very good.

OMG!!! Opa that is too cute!!

I've had poopy butt probs before. To stop it or make it easier to clean I start by cleaning their vent area very well. Then smear on a good amount of vaseline. It makes the poop not stick and if it does it wipes off very easily.

Vaseline!!!!!!!! I used so much of that on my kids when they were babies. And I'm sure my silkie wouldn't mind the generic stuff. Thanks alot Judymae
