I got my Coturnix a 2 days ago and I already washed the waterer 17 times (yes I counted...). Does anyone know a better waterer design of something that will be clean for a longer amount of time? I don't like the idea of nipples, doesn't seem like they were made to drink from them... Any help is appreciated.

Hello I put my waterers on 3" blocks of wood. This way they are elevated and the birds can drink from them but not poo in them.

The nipples actually work great. I'd rather have my birds drinking from something nature didn't intend, but that provided clean water, than drinking their own feces. Feces in the water can also cause bacteria to incubate there, that bacteria can cause fatal disease's in your birds later.

I use GQF pop bottle waterers and they are about 2 inches up from the floor of the pens
so that they can drink and not poop into them, I get a little food debris washed off their beaks but I don't ever recall having poop in there, I rinse and replace water 2X per day.

The nipple waterers are so convenient and clean. For my button quail I use a glass water bottle, the kind you use with hamsters/rabbits. They got the hang of it very quickly, within minutes. Very clean. I got tired of washing out the shavings with the other kind of chicken waterer.

My quail only get a water change once a day and it stays clean. I use a standard chicken waterer and put it on bricks. It stays above their rear ends so poop never gets in the water.

I tried nipples and they loved it so much they were emptying those things out in like 15 minutes, just for the fun of it.
