We have a run that is mostly sand over some river rocks. Another part of he run, under the coop is just dirt. We've tried scooping poo with a kitty litter scooper but the chicken poo is too small. Does anyone have a better way to get and keep the run clean?

I rototill mine once in a while. Right now I just have dirt in a 12x24 tin roof covered run. They love it when the dirt is overturned!!

For chick sized poo I use a dust pan to scoop the bedding into a screen type kitchen strainer. You can also use a reptile scoop, designed for small poops and fine bedding.

Having a roof over the run helps keep the sand dry, which makes it easier. Should it become compacted, you'll need a manual tiller, gravel rake, or some other tool to loosen it back up.
