Cleaning Dirty Goose Eggs*~

Hey everyone I recently received some goose eggs from somebody on here, but one is very dirty and I was wondering how I could clean it. I don't have any sandpaper so that won't work, so I was wondering if there was another way?

Could i just get a damp cloth, or would that damage the egg?

I have read on here that you can run them under warm water for a few seconds, just long enough to loosen the dirt, then wipe them with a cloth. Or you can use an emery (sp?) board, like you would use on your fingernails if you don't have sandpaper.

Do not use sandpaper or emery board, you will damage the shell, and allow bacteria to enter. The folks who raise the endangered whooping cranes do a gentle warm betadine rinse, lightly wiping clean. A lot of folks say don't do anything unless there is acutally clumps of stuff on it, the goose wouldn't.

not everyone.. we wipe ours with a damp paper towel..only enough to take the spots of poo off..

and no, geese do not clean theirs.
but all the gunk rubs off as the goose sits on them and turns them

just check the eggs after the goose hatches them..

Make sure it is WARM water. Cold water will make the egg contents contract and pull the nasty bacteria-infested water back into the shell through the pores.

If the egg is room tempature all you need to do is get your water to room temp and then take a paper towel and wet it with the the room temp water and clean the egg dont use too cold of water or too warm of water that will cause the egg to soak in bacteria possibly if the egg is real dirty just do it in stages because you have to mist the eggs every couple of days anyways

I run mine under a warm water faucet, once they are dirty, they will never get "clean" because of the texture. But you really dont want chunks of mud and gunk on them in the incubator. Just dont jostle and jar the egg while cleaning it.
