Cleaning Poopy Butts

My chicken has some poop caked around her vent from when she had the squirts. Now as most chicken owners know, dried chicken poop turns into concrete and you have to use a jackhammer to break it up. It also takes on a semi waterproof quality. We really should consider using it to pave roads. That being said, does anyone have any tips for cleaning up a poop crusted butt without breaking out power tools and plucking feathers? They would be greatly appreciated.

Just trim the poopy feathers off....or she may eventually preen it off, mine did.

Yeah. I checked her again today and it looked like she has made progress on it.

If your hen doesn't preen it off herself, I would trim them off. One of my hens (whose personal hygiene really isn't a priority) gets a regular butt feather cleaning every month!
