Cleaning UNDER the 8 X 12 coop. Will be stinky!!

^^^^^This is what I intend to do with mine, put sand/crushed stone down, and then rake/scoop as needed. Dust bath is a great idea! I will have to do that with a portion of mine as well.

If you click on my coop you can see how I did it. I made the sides raised because I knew they'd be flinging dirt everywhere, and so far it is working really well to contain it! They play in the box and poop on the sand - oddly enough exactly what I wanted them to do. Usually they do the exact opposite of what I want, lol! ("Bird...Get off the feeder!!" "Don't perch up there! What are you thinking??" "Don't peck that, it's NOT food!!") Silly chickens!

Thank you, I figured it would be awful. I have them in the temporary run for about 2 weeks and it is in the rain and stinks to high heaven. Lol

Thanks so, it was stinky until you added the sand? I can't imagine that it helps that much. What kind of sand did you use?

Update: There is no smell under my coop. It just disappears. I did put 3 bales of straw under it last fall and replenish that occasionally, but there is no poop.

I was going to say that, but noticed this thread is a year old....glad you came back to confirm that it's dry under there so no stinky.
