cleaning with tea tree oil?

I've read that when cleaning out the coop it's good to add a few drops of tea tree oil to the water you use. Has anyone done this?

I have added a couple drops of tea tree to the bowl of veg oil we use to oil the roosts after a good sanding, but you have to be very careful not to overdo it since birds are very affected by aromatics.
