In the last month, our free rangers pulled out 4 of that same size from God only knows where - and the race was on to see who could take it away for a feast of their own. We couldn't even get close enough to them to see what kind of snake it was. I suspect baby moccasin from the general location they were running from during the chase.
Yeah, these are the only snakes I find around here. Nothing poisonous out here. I remember though, when I was a kid, I picked up this HUGE snake. I held it over my head and it's ends were still dragging on the ground. I was maybe 3 feet tall at the time? Now I think about it... it was probably someones pet they lost.... These don't get very big, maybe only big enough to eat a rat. Most I've seen is them struggling to choke down baby slugs. It's a funny sight since the slugs bunch up and they are trying to swallow it!
