so here in stupid land u can have birds but not fowl.what? i've hjad my girls about a year and was originally told, "i think youi can have chickens as long as there are no roosters" recently an anonymous "neighbor" (i'm 99% sure its my evil x-'mother in law from heck) complained to the city so i had a visit from the police. i told him my neighbors had no issues and who i thought called. he showed me the ordinance and it states something like non domesticated animals to include fowl,,, but it also says something about allowable pets being birds.
since when are chickens not birds? does anyuone know how i can keep myu chickens here in clearwater? are there any variances or something like that? i've heard there are many others here that have chickens too.
any suggestions,
Thanks
vicki

I know of a similar case and since they had rare breeds, they are aloud to keep them cause they were considered rare breeds and not a barnyard chicken. You can try that way if you want. Check your laws and see what they say. Good luck.

thanks for the idea. does anyone have any rare breed names i can research that might give my girls a chance to stay in their home?
with my sons food intolerances i need eggs fron birls that dont eat wheat or soy. i'm in clearwater fl so if anyone knows anyone local to her where i can get healthy eggs in case we have to get rid of them.
thanks for any advice

Vicki,

We live in Clearwater also and thought about getting chickens, but found out we couldn't since we live in the city. Apparently, if you are county, it's allowed. Crazy! Anyway, I get eggs from a local lady who is county so she's able to have her chickens legally. I get them through a small, local business called Organic Living For All. They are at the Dunedin Farmer's Market on Saturdays and they run their business out of their house. They are mostly into organic edible gardening, but you can get a few other things from them, too, like the eggs, local honey, etc. They have a website. The lady who runs it is Jai Hambly. I just tell her ahead of time when I need eggs and how many. She gets the eggs from her friend (they're all different colors - beautiful) and calls me when she has them. Good luck!

I would get a letter from the doctor maybe you could keep your chickens for that reasons. I also don't see how they can say chickens are not birds. Good luck
