I would recommend the Wyandotte. They, in my experience, are extremely docile birds with great personalities. Mine have consistently laid 250 + eggs per year, even though they are now about three years old. They are cold hardy and should be able to withstand Ohio winters. Mine have done well in the heat as well.

I would suggest raising some Wyandottes, Plymouth Rocks, Australorps, or Easter Eggers. All of those breeds usually have good temperaments, lay plenty of eggs, and come in many beautiful colors.
