Hi all, we plan on redoing our coop and entire garden/yard really so was wondering, what clever tips or hacks did you do in your coop that have made things easier/better or wish you did.
Can be small or big. I'm going to draw up the plans tonight and the hacks are my favourite bit really.
Thanks all.x

1. Poop boards, under the roost makes it easier to contain and clean their nightly droppings therefore less poopy feet that can drag wet fecal matter in the nesting boxes.

2. Liners on floor and part of the walls for easy cleaning and preventing poop on wooden walls.

3. Sufficient ventilations and enough windows for natural lighting and healthy air flows for dry and clean coop, that contributes to happy healthy flock.

4. Walk in coop that you can stand in, the taller the better in case of emergency, easy access and overall adds to easy cleaning and roominess of the coop in case of bad weather.

4. Roomy covered chicken run, it’s safer from predators and eliminates mud during rainy days.

Hope this helps, definitely made my busy life tends to the chickens enjoyable.

All great ideas thank you! I love the poop boards idea, will definitely be adding them.

If I find any more hacks I'll post them here.
Good luck you can do it!
One of our favourites but I suppose is pretty basic is for the run/yard. Is using old tyres for dust baths. We spray painted ours so we had a pink, yellow and blue and they brighten it up plus they loved to hide on the inside of the tyre.

I hate the idea of poop boards and do not use them. I use 1X2 welded wire under the roost. Most poop falls through to the ground. Every few weeks what doesn't fall through by itself gets brushed through with a deck brush. My coop is fairly small (5X5) and is elevated about 2 feet off the ground. This works very well in my climate, but my chickens spend no time in the coop except to roost or lay eggs.

HA! That's funny! I, not cuz I wanted one, have 2 on the far side of my house, and i can find my babies out there "playing" alot! Ha! OK... One thing I have...yeah....Now where and how and what to get to start on this adventure....I know I can do it, but I have some difficulty with dexterity of my hands (after surgery) Very frusturating, but I'll get 'er done somehow!

I'm learning every second, here! 5X5 is ok for 2girls and 2 boys? And, that is nOt accessable for predators?
