Climate change

One year doesn't make a pattern I remember I think 1991 or so Southern Calif. got more rain the Oregon. Now how many times have you seen that ?

I agree...Either the weather news coverage has gotten a lot better and more in depth or recently the storms have gotten worse. Out here in Northern california the weather seems mild and kinda normal. I would like a string of 100 deg days now and then though. But where I live that would drive the wine prices up and the whole world would go into chaos lol

LOL! People squawk more if the price of wine skyrockets, than they do when the price of gasoline goes up. 'Specially in California.
New England also has been spared, though we did have freakish wind storms last year that were close to being tornadoes. And we did get more than the typical number of tornadoes too, for New England.

But hemit dennis is right that one or even two years does not represent a trend. If we were to look at a climate chart that tracks average high-low temperatures over the past ten years, we'd see that while it has lots of zig-zaggy dips and valleys, the temperature is steadily and gradually going up. I'd like to see a chart tracking storms of a certain intensity, by region, to see whether there is any recognizable pattern there, too.

Even ten years is not enough.Ten years only represent only one hair on a large dog all things earth.

I remember in the late 70's early 80's lake Shasta was all but empty and they were seeding clouds in Tahoe for snow. It lasted about 3 years and nobody was wringing their hands like they do today. Weather abnormalities are way over dramatized.

Yes, you're right, but even that 10 year piece shows a slight upward trend.
The climate and weather records in the U.S. only go back to the late 19th century, not much bigger a blip in time. But you can start to see a bit of what's going on.

The real data is in core drillings from the Earth, which is layers upon layers of matter frozen in time. That's where we're finding the most compelling data and clues about what was going on climatically 10,000 years ago, 50,000 years ago, and beyond.

But people like to talk and complain about the weather, and there's plenty of that to go around!

It seems that climates in some parts of the world have been getting warmer but what happens in your own back yard isn't necessarily an indicator for the rest of the world.

There's evidence that Britain was once a great deal warmer than it is today. It was certainly a lot wetter, despite the present floods.

Some scientists who aren't paid by any private or UN organisation say that we are on the cusp of another ice age.

Some scientists who aren't paid by any private or UN organisation say that hardly any carbon emissions are man made.

Some teachers are telling kids that it's all the fault of the baby boomers. That's about as intelligent as the creationist babble.

I say, don't let them divert your attention from the real issues that need action and don't be fooled into buying worthless 'eco-friendly' energy systems and other such garbage.

Didn't England have a frozen winter a couple years ago.

During my lifetime Britain has had heatwaves, freeze ups, droughts, floods and hurricanes. It's said that Britain has weather but no climate! Each change has brought out new predictions about climate change and each one has been confounded by the next year's weather.
