climbing plants?

I just read that the tomato plant can cause digestive problems in chickens.

I would be more concerned about the toxicity of fragrant foliage. Also, I am not really sure that the scent will really mask the chicken scent, at least not all year (as they mostly bloom in summer and die in winter). I really like the cucumber idea, though. I just planned my new run and am going to put it right next to the garden. So now I will plant cucumbers next to the chickens!!

We've grown both pole beans and hops up the side of our coop that gets afternoon sun. This will be our second season with hops, which grows fast and gives plenty of shade. You cut it down in winter, and it comes back in the spring. For fragrance. . . what about jasmine?

Raccoons don't like the fuzzy texture of cucumber vines, or the prickles (prickle, not pickle.

) on the cucumber fruit itself. I plan on growing cucumber all over the fence surrounding my run, hopefully it'll deter the little masked buggers from climbing inside...
