Clipped beak on pullet question.

Hello!
I recently was able to adopt a pullet from an egg "farm." She is 19 months old, is a golden comet and has had her beak clipped so she would not peck at other birds in the "farm." I was just wondering if a chicken beak will eventually grow back as a finger or toenail would? Or is the beak gone for ever?

Factory beek trim jobs are pretty much for life as they cut deep and burn the cut to seal it off. Minor trims done later in life that don't go deep enough to bleed will grow out in time.

No they don't grow back and actually doing this allows the chicken "farmers" to put TOO many birds together....but it causes a life time of pain, their beaks have nerve endings in them, you can google it. Make sure they have soft ground food and it is deep enough so they don't bump their beak on the ground. You are so wonderful to do that! Can we see a pic of the special little girl who has a grand new life!?!?!?!?

If it is cut into the bone, it will not grow back, if it is cut into only the nail like part of the beak, it will grow back.

Once the beak has healed, you should not have to worry about it hurting on feed. Much like people missing finger tips, once they heal they can be sensitive, but they don't have to forever not use those tips because of non ending pain.

That looks as if it was done at a day old post hatch, it won't come back and it's not so deep that it will prevent her from living a normal life. Looks like she's been using it enough as is as I see wear at the end like normal. It can be bad when only the top or the bottom gets cut and their beak doesn't line up at the end.

Thanks for that information. She seems to have no problem eating chicken food, drinking water and pulling leaves off plants to eat. Good to know she'll be okay even if the beak does not grow back.

She looks really good! Glad her beak isn't hindering her from eating, some chickens can get growths at the end of their beaks too as they try to heal, but hers doesn't look horrible. She is pretty and plump!!!! I'm sure she is SOOO happy to be able to walk about and be a normal chicken! God Bless!!!!!
