My 9 month old Houdan was having a difficult time seeing due to extremely long crest feathers. I clipped them all down to about one inch and two days later she stopped laying. She has been laying faithfully for three months. The weather has not changed and my Americana and Cochin are laying fine.

Did I freak her out with her new 'hair do' or is it just a coincidence?

I offer oyster shells daily.

Maybe coincidence?
Could she be getting ready to moult?

I clipped my Houdan's crest when she was running into things - like walls

- and she never skipped a beat laying.

I'm thinking coincidence. Clipped several of my birds' crests and none of them stopped laying as a result. Laying cycles get whacky this time of year. Some birds are just more effected than others, and vice versa.
