I sure hope so!! Seeing my kids running all over the yard and jumping into the bushes after him was quite funny though! You might be lucky and he is roosting up and more accessible tonight.
Ok! Thank you!!Feathers that are clipped do not grow back in response to clipping. They get renewed during molt.
When I clip wings of the wanna be explorers I do both wings and I clip as much as I can. I have Marans. Very heavy birds. They don't drop like rocks and they don't hurt their legs when they jump out of the coop. They descend a bit faster and flutter more but they are okay.
Once caught a chicken is twice learned and they are a lot harder to catch. Just seeing me with the snare makes them wary. Catch them and clip both wings and be done with it.
That's what I did. Well, the hens anyway. The rooster I have in there right now has 2 inch spurs coming off of his legs! I'd rather not get caught by those.Pulling them off the roost is my preference for clipping process. Ideally, they do not get skittish and bail from roost.
Goodness I didn't think about that!Try not to chase in that manner if you can. Rather stalk him. Too much chasing will make so you need to tame him more later.
Remember you indicate previous owners did not treat him well, that coupled with even modest stress now have be hard on him.
