Clipping nails ~ rabbits

It depends on the rabbit...I raise Dwarf Hotots, and I would deff recommend a scissor type cat nail clipper. As for how often, I am maybe a bit OCD but I usually clip nails every month. If they are in wire bottom cages they will need it more often than if in solid bottom cages/runs as the friction will wear them down. I find the safest and easiest way to acutally do it is to sit down, flip them on their backs and cradle them between your legs. Mine all fall asleep when like this, but they are used to it. A breeder would be best to show you how to do it. For a bun that is not used to being handled as much, I would wrap them snugly in a towel so that they can't flail around, remember rabbits can really hurt themselves if they struggle. GOOD LUCK!

PS- There is a pic mid-page on this site that shows how I hold them for trimings...

When I clip nails I sit down in a chair put the rabbit on my lap flip the rabbit on it's back and than move the rabbit between me legs to kinda hold him there don't squeeze to hard, than using human nail clippers I then take my left hand and hold the rabbits leg pushing the nails foward and clip them with my right hand.
