Hi! Well its been awhile since I've moved off to college, but I came back and realized I've never clipped my roosters spurs becuz he's so calm but i think becuz their so long their peelin now and im thinkin its time to clip them....
how do i do this??? i need to do this tomorrow, i heard if you just cut them with scissors but will they bleed? will it hurt him terribly? do i need anythin to stop the pain for him?? he is a 4yr old bantam barred rock calm rooster.

thanks for yalls help! sorry if this is the wrong place for it!

There is a youtube where they take some pliers and gently twist the spur off while holding the roo. There is a smaller, live spur underneath that will bleed if you cut into it. The spur will regrow. There will a a couple of drops of blood with this method according to the video.

Don't cut that inner spur or you might make him bleed too much IMO.

Just going by what I've read and seen on internet. Someone else might be more helpful.

how do you know what is to far?

is it nessecary? i didnt want too cuz he is not violent or feisty at all but their sooo long and it looks like some of it is peelin now...

I have never heard this was necessary.

Yeah I am a hand twister fan myself, it's so easy and so fast. I do it every six months or so or whenever they get handled and I see they need a twist.
