I've been having to go out and put Kodiak in the hut each night lately. Last night I couldn't find her. If it wasn't for the threat of bad weather, I'd have left her out - getting her was a pain in the rump as she'd built herself a nest in an almost impossible to get to spot in their yard.
I get her back in the hut, but the resident momma bird had flown out when I went in to see if she was in there. Since momma bird has 3 new little babies sitting up in the nest, I opted to not close the bird door when I left, but let it close automatically so momma had a chance to get back to her babies.
So yeah, we had an EF1 tornado go through the back yard last night, right behind the duck house! Today I removed a bunch of downed limbs that were next to and over her nest! she's one lucky (and not so smart) duck!
