Close call!

We almost burned down the whole coop last night. Our coop is on skids so it can be moved around the pasture/yard. My husband moved the coop, settled everything including looking for late eggs, and closed up the coop. We have had heat lamps in the coop during the coldest part of the winter, they come on at sundown and go off at sunup. One has a safety cage, one does not. This morning, I found this:

A totally frightening tragedy waiting to happen!

I've never used heat lamps in coops, only in my indoor brooders, but even the thought of an electrical fire terrifies me. Your post is a good reminder about heat lamp safety.

Something or someone was surely on your side! Congrats on everyone's safety and that the coop didn't burn down.
