Closed eye lids

I had several chicks hatch over the Christmas holidays and I had to work. I finally had time to really look at it today, and saw that two chicks have their eye lids ' glued ' shut. Looks like as they dried out from hatching the eye lids just dried shut. They 3-4 days old now. What can I do to soften the skin around the eye so they can open them?

warm wet qtips to get the fluff damp around their eyes be gentle. it'll take time. from beak side back along the line of the lid. once its really cleaned up you can gently try to open their eyes with you fingers if they arent doing it on their own.

Well, i had a pullet develop swollen eyelids and putting warm rag on it for several minutes helps. I use saline wash on my pullet, now there's a huge age difference so I'm unsure if that can be done and last bur not least triple antibiotic ointment really helped but my pullets four months so probably different treatments

Well, yesterday I applied warm water around the eye and again last night. I also applied vasoline on the top and bottom eyelids. This morning I couldn't tell which one had the bad eye! It had fluffed somewhat. The younger one had complete closing of both eyes. This morning he has both eyes open. Not fluffed yet but useable. Thankyou all for your info.This is such an important site. Having worked the last few days, and things Doing better, I didn't check on the one with eye problems. Last night saw that one eye was slut the other so Tiny, just a hole the size of this o! Literally ! It is like an allergy that keeps the eyes weeping and teary, so the mucus fuzes them shut. Warm water helps open them, but when left alone they fuze shut again. I have seperated the small one and have today to help her. ANY advice?

No the eyes aren't bubbling or puffy. Âfter applying a warm damp rag and holding it on the eye for about 5 mins., the eye was opened ha stayed open for an hour now. Fine crossed.
