Closing pop door at night

I have a very strong coop/run build and though I COULD leave the door open at night, I just sleep a lot better knowing they're locked in...murphy's law and all that. Have you thought about an auto door? I did the wake up early to open the door, stay up late to close the door for 3 years...got pretty old after awhile. I'm now using an ADOR1 and absolutely love it...had it about a year now and it's worked flawlessly.

Hi aart, I think you're forgetting how much you already influenced this build! In addition to the 1.6 sq ft of roof ventilation, I have a window on the far side of the coop, which I open for more ventilation in warm weather. They also get plenty of light in there, as that window is the full width of one wall!

I had checked out some auto doors, but didn't find exactly what I'm looking for:

1. Door goes up and down in guides, not a swinging door.
2. I have no power out there, so it must be battery powered. A solar charger would be awesome.
3. I'd like it to be photo driven, rather than timer driven, so I don't have to keep adjusting it thru the seasons. Because my run has a roof, door is in shade, so I'd like a remote photo eye or adjustable sensitivity.

I might have to drop the photosensitive requirement, but that still leaves battery and a string lift requirement. So many I've seen are for swinging doors, which was a surprise.

That's the ADOR1! You can see more about it here: http://adorstore.com/

Have you thought about making your own door? I saw a link to a good thread on one once but of course I can't remember it now, if I find it I'll let you know. But I think it was with a car antenna, battery, and timer. Might try searching in the forum. Pretty easy and a lot cheaper and could make your own requirements

I appreciate the thought of it, but the truth is I have far less time than money, at least when compared on the scale of a chicken door opener.

I think it was fairly easy to make and didn't take very long but if you're limited on time, I can definitely understand that
