Clucky's New Flock Adventures

Pics
My chick order from Hoover's Hatchery finally arrived! :D Thankfully everyone is doing well! ❤️ I ordered 10 buff orpington pullets, but they gave me a mystery chick too! 😁 What breed do you think it is??

Hey guys! :frow

It's been awhile! :p I guess it's time to update.

First of all, the Buff Orpington chicks from Hoover's Hatchery aren't doing so well. :( Some of them have cocci and it seems to be spreading. One died last night. 😢 I put Corid in their water and I'm monitoring them closely.
They moved to a new coop brooder today! Some family members kindly helped out with putting it together. :) So far so good!

As you can see in the picture, that adorable white mystery turned out to be a Cornish X. Ugh!!! Now what? I'm still figuring out a plan..... and trying not to get attached. He's such a cute and chunky little fella'! 🥰

I'm currently dealing with a lot of chicken problems and it's pretty discouraging. :(
My rooster, Neo, is getting feather picked and he just broke his beak! I had to setup a chicken hospital a little while ago. He's doing ok at the moment.
I'm also debating whether or not I should keep him. I'll probably write down the pros and cons of having a rooster in my current situation and also get my chicken experienced friend's opinions.

I hope my pullets start laying eggs very soon! That would be rewarding! They are getting near the right age. I can't wait to see what color my EE's lay! I'm very happy with the names I picked for this year's flock. 😊

Here is a picture of my poor rooster.

Oh, and I'm selling some pullets right now! If you're in my area and interested please PM me!

Oh! I'm so sorry about your loss! :hugs :hugs :hugs I hope the rest of your chicks get better really soon! I hear Corid is the best for treating them. You ought to enter your meatbird in the meatbird photo contest here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/official-byc-2022-summer-fair—meat-bird-show.1537252/ Don't get attached to him though!!

I'm sorry about your poor rooster, too. :hugs:hugs I hope he heals quickly. He's gorgeous, and I love his name!

How old is the pullets now? You'll have to post pictures of the eggs! :love

Yeah...thanks. I did all I could for the poor baby. :(

I had no idea there was a meat bird contest 😆

Thanks! He's being a good boy but very lonely. He was crowing sadly this morning. ❤️

Some of my pullets are about 18 weeks, and some are 15 weeks.

My Cornish X is 4 weeks old now according to my calculations. I wish he wasn't so friendly! That makes me want to love him! I brought him out in the grass a couple minutes ago to take some pictures and all he wanted to do was sit on me!

I'm assuming it's a "he"....am I correct? @Lacy Duckwing - you should be able to tell! :D
Also, there is a farm near me that raises Cornish X so I'm gonna call and ask if they'd be willing to take him. I'll let you guys know what they say!

Time for an update on Neo!
He is doing good and healing surprisingly fast! His beak is already back in place and there is no more blood. I also noticed the feathers on his neck are coming back. Too bad I can't keep him separated longer. :hmm That would probably be helpful. Unfortunately that won't be possible because I'll be away for another week starting Sunday.
I now have another concern: Neo seems to think a little too highly of himself and is being mean. He bit me today! I'm afraid he's going to be a nasty rooster. I guess time will tell.
I might have to rehome him anyway for the sake of the ladies.

That'd be awesome if that farm would take him! Yes, a cockerel.

I figured his feathers might start growing back in there... Congrats on him doing well!
Uh, oh. You need to show him who's boss. I think it was @TwoCrows who wrote an article on how to do that. (I could be wrong on author, but I know there was some pretty good advice in the article that I've been practicing. )
