So sorry for lagging in response to the question about breeds!

I have two little kids so I wanted to get docile breeds that would also have a good chance at being good buddies in the coop.

We went with:

2 silkies
2 australorps
1 Orpington
1 Easter egger

Since we can only depend on the silkies for their cuteness and not their eggs, we are going to build the coop to accommodate 8-10 birds in case we want to add to the flock later on down the road.

You have some very calm and gentle breeds. My children made lap pets out of our Silkies, Australorps, and Orpingtons. Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's (pictured in my avatar) favorite chickens. She loves their colored eggs. Good luck with your flock.
