Okay I know these guys are still a bit young (they are only 4 weeks old) but I am getting scared as my kids (and me) are getting attached. We, and our neighbors, only want pullets but think there might be 1 or 2 roos in the mix that I will have to find a home for. Any insight is welcome and appriciated!!!!!!!!!!

The black one (aka Doty) we believe is a Jersy Giant and we think we might need to change its name to Doug. Hope not since its a friendly little thing that thinks your head is a cool roost!

The buff color one (aka Odd Ball) we believe is a Buff Rock and a pullet.

The 2 Easter Eggers (aka snuggles and Baby) can be a 50 50 split with snuggles (the darker one) being the momma of the group and baby (the lighter one) might being a sneaky roo!

I have more pics posted on the home page.

Thank you so much for the insights!

BTW: WELCOME TO BYC!!! So glad you are here.

Odd ball looks more like a sex link to me. (Golden Comet) but yeah, female.

Jury is still out on the Jersey Giant.

Usually those lighter ones like the EE are male... but I've been surprised before.

Good luck, with the EEs it's still too early to tell.

I agree with Mahroni about the buff being a golden comet (and a female).

The easter eggers are both girls too - I can tell by their feather coloring/patterns (not on all easter eggers, but these two I can).

The black one doesn't look like a roo from that pic, but we'd need to see a closeup of the comb to be more accurate. It looks a lot like my black australorp chicks and they were very easy to sex at about 5-6 weeks of age - the roos' combs & wattles grew quickly. Check the bottoms of your black chick's feet - if they are yellow, than you are correct and it is a jersey giant - if they are white, than your chick is an australorp.

Thank you all for the insights and knowledge.

Our little Doty (the black one) has yellow pads on the bottom of her feet.

I never thought it a million years that I would not only have chickens, but love the things so darn much!!!!!
