I totally agree with this.

I will add that we could not afford to have the license plates transferred to the back up van we needed to have an emission test done which was $37 but the van would not pass and we did not have the $400 for a conditional pass so he drove the van illegally with no plates for 3 months.

shhhhh ...hope there is no police readin this...lol... DH drove the back farmer bob roads to avoid getting caught but sept 08 - june 09 was a VERY rough time for us

Boy, I really messed that up. What I was trying to say is that I think some of us have been in that position at least once in our lives. You do whatever it takes to get by.

How about all the destroyed clunkers that a lower income family could use. They can't afford a new car payment, But no used cars for them to buy. I don't know how many clunkers we went through before we could afford a newer car.
I heard that car lots are now yelling about this. No used cars for sale. But demand is high for them.

I think the cash for clunkers deal was just another scheme in the long list of dumb schemes the government is trying to put over our eyes. Yes many Japanese cars are made here in the U.S. but in reality we are still putting money in their pockets. There should of been a clause that it would apply to American cars. Clunkers doesn't only mean useless autos but cars that are gas hogs. I have read where this one mechanic had to trash this older truck that only had 71,000 miles on it! It is a shame that these cars can not be donated to charity such a goodwill. There are plenty of people out there that could use them. Granted they were gas guzzlers but a car can make a great difference to others who need a vechicle to get to the store or just back and forth to work. Another stickler is dealerships have had to fill out a ton of paperwork and the government is very slow at paying them back! With todays economy you can never be sure where your job will go and then you will be stuck with a new car you may or may not be able to pay.

Exactly. A lot of Americans want to wake up tomorrow (literally) and have everything the way it was ten years ago. Because it's not happening as fast as they want, they get angry. I'm only 27, and I'm not looking for any instant gratification. The recovery will take time...it could be years. It doesn't bother me. Why do we need everything right now? We're so reactive now...we freak at the slightest idea that something might disrupt our little worlds. I blame the media for causing a lot of this fear and anger.

Also, the world is a different place than it was ten years ago. We need new industries here. Manufacturing here is a thing of the past. It's just not going to come back at the level it ever was. If we keep doing the same things we always have, then why should we be surprised when we don't get different results? Green technology is the industry of the future.

The world is changing really fast because of technology. It's like we're living in a new industrial revolution. It's pretty exciting!

Parts still made overseas, assemble here.

The first year Honda was here, they broke even, but their parts plant in Japan make 300% profit. So they didnt have to pay tax here, fed,or state, ODD.

I only buy america made, from america company. Even check vend. # on GM cars, make sure they are made here.

I would like a way to opt out of paying for all of the "rebates" that my tax money is supporting......

We have a Repo business who rents lot space from our family, he is already setting up the yard for even more repos in the next 6 months.... from this program. He figures it will be about that long for the payments to get behind and the paperwork to be handed to him....

And he hasn't slowed down in the last 2 years! The Repo man can't believe the government allowed this crazy idea.... That's saying alot!

There are a lot of "outsourced" plants all over north America.

Linamar - Head Office Guelph Ontario Canada - Plants all over North America and Europe
Magna - Head Office Aurora Ontario Canada - Plants all over North America and Europe
Leer - Head office in Michigan

these are examples of Canadian and American companies that provide parts for the big 3 and also for the "imports"

Linamar makes parts Honda and the big 3
Magna makes parts for Toyota and the big 3
Leet makes Seats for Toyota and GM for sure but maybe Ford and Chrysler too

(Toyota had a HUGE plant in Woodstock Ontario and a HUGE plant in Cambridge Ontario)

eta: cause I forgot my point...lol Just because it has a Toyota sticker does not mean is an "import" it very well could have been made in North America all the parts but I guess the "name" is imported but whats in a name?.... just something to ponder
