Clunkers, where did the jobs go.

"They build the foreign cars here." Man, aren't we suckers. Where do you think the money goes? It used to be shameful to drive a foreign car here, but those days are long gone.

American cars are only full of foreign parts because Americans allowed it to happen.

It seems like the government should be convincing people to save their money, but instead they want you to go further into debt. That's the way they operate.

It seems to me that a car depreciates so quickly that you will lose the $4500 as soon as you drive it off the lot.

To me, the cash for clunkers program is one of the goofiest things they've come up with yet.

if only american car companies made a good car we would not be having this conversation.

and unions were a big part of the american car companies problems. jus sayin

Yeah I miss those times too. Carb flooding, car won't start. Stinky cars everywhere with carbs either too lean or too rich. If we still had all those cars every city could look like LA on a bad day. Most of us would have asthma. Things would be great.

The car companies took loans that are being paid back. As Wombat pointed out there is a lot of disinformation out there. Certain political elements are running a full fledged war against the current administration. They will stop at nothing on every front. Too bad they didn't put this much effort in to finding Osama Bin Laden.

Serious disinformation going on here.

Clunkers only have to have their engines disabled. If the junk yard was crushing them they were doing it because they didn't want to salvage anything else. Not because it was required. A lot of salvage yards are upset about the engines being destroyed because they can get good money for the engines. Takes very little effort to remove. They just use a cutting torch to get them out. There isn't that much need for body parts on the older cars. Most people that own the older cars don't have the money to fix the bodies. So if they can't sell the engine they might as well crush the car. No reason to take up the space with a car that probably won't bring any money in.

12,000 to 30,000? Give me a break. I don't listen to Rush.

I heard on the radio yesterday that a large auto group in Atlanta (Steve Raymond )sp? was getting out because they haven't been paid back for a single car yet!!! Out of hundreds of cars.
I have seen posts that state the recovery will take time. I agree. It will take us 100 years to pay off all of these programs and bail outs. I was of the impression that under capitalism, if a company can't run itself that it would be allowed to go under. Its dead weight. If another company wants to buy that failing company, fine. The US govt, NO. There are two groups of people that I blame for the crash of GM. #1. higest levels of man. for not making the best choices and#2. the union. I can't feel sorry for the UAW when he comes out in a press confrence at the begining of the end for GM and says straight out the the UAW WILL NOT TAKE AN HOURLY PAYCUT PERIOD!!!!! I would rather take a pay cut than loose my job. I may be wrong but aren't Honda, Toytoa, Nissian,KIA ect all NON-union? Gets ya to thinking!!! I'm gonna stop now.

750,000 cars is not a small program. They expected it to take 3 months to go through 1 billion. They went through 3 billion in 4 weeks. I would expect a bit of a back log. You have your party line down right though. Good Job.

Anyone listening to Rush can't be helped. But at the very least they could stop spreading the ridiculous garbage that comes out of his mouth.
