there were two sets of tiny little bumps on an egg i collected today.

anyone ever seen this? somebody please tell me this is calcium deposits and not lice. i scratched them off with my finger nail, they seemed the same color as the light pinkish/tan egg.

should i toss the egg? or eat it since removal and washing?

YUKKKKKKK.

This can be due to excess calcium/vitamin D/pullet-hen genetics (how the girl utilizes Calcium/vit.D).

If you find this on several eggs from many girls, adjust calcium/vit.D, if it is only one suspect genetics.

Probably more than needs be said here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=32521&p=1 (and the hen mentioned in the thread continues to produce eggs with these off and on, none of the others do).

One of my ee's eggs has these little bumps too. Its due to excess calcium and your egg is perfectly safe. Don't try to pick off the bumps though. It actually made a hole in the shell and we had to cook it up right away.
