I am a brand new chicken owner and brand new to this site. I have had my chicken for four days. I started with three. Then, they all came down with cocci after about 24 hours. They definitely got it from the breeder. I took the sickest one to the vet to confirm and I was right. They are being treated for it now and seem to be improving but I lost one girl this morning. It was so weird and random because she was the healthiest of all of them.

They are improving but now have developed sour crop as a result of the digestive issues associated with cocci. I took their food and added vinegar to their water and also gave them some olive oil. I also massaged their crops for about a half hour each and they were burping their brains out.

Questions:

1. Is regular vinegar helpful until I can get some apple cider vinegar?
2. When should I see improvement with the sour crop?
3. When do I feed them again and what do I feed them?
4. Is there anything else I need to be doing?

Thanks in advance for any advice or experience you have to share!

Do not use vinegar with sour crop, adds to the acidic problem you already have. Several people on this forum have used monistat, cut 3 tablets into thirds(so you have 9) give i tablet 2 times a day. Everyone claims great success with this method. I thought this was a brilliant idea. For more information about this, look on forums. They only thing i don't know,is if it will interfere with cocci medicine,it shouldn't as there are no vitamins in monistat to interfere with medication. Here is a link on sour crop http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/04/answers-from-chicken-vet-on-impacted.html

Gah! There is so much contradicting information out there! Their crops were all better this morning though. So far so good. Thanks for the information!
