Cocci: Are droppings consistently runny?

Hello everyone! I am a first time chick mom. Although I've cared for other people's chickens before, I find myself worried about my own babies now that they are all my responsibility. I am so grateful for this community and its insight.

If a chick has cocci, would its droppings be consistently runny or bloody?

I have a tiny silkie chick who was very sickly when she arrived in the mail. She had recurrent pasty butt, was very weak and sleepy, and had near-constant head shaking. I was concerned it could have been a thiamin deficiency, so I switched her to unmedicated feed.

She's now 1.5 weeks old and is doing much better. She's getting her feathers, eats, drinks, and keeps up with the others. She still shakes her head--especially when she's stressed--but not as much. She still has pasty butt but it doesn't get clogged up as often now. Sometimes, though, she gets small amounts light brown/rusty colored diarrhea-like droppings that stick to her backside. Could this be cocci? She does have normal droppings as well. If she had cocci, would it always be runny?

I've slowly transitioned them two days ago to shavings instead of paper towels and today this little one also has a very full crop for the first time and is still eating. Hopefully it will go down by morning.

Thank you for all your help!

Please post some photos of the chick and her poop.

If she's still shaking her head, then I would give her poultry vitamins that contain E and B1 like Poultry Nutri-Drench or you can give her 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex once a day for a week.

The color of poop can vary, so light brown/rusty may be "normal".
I would make her a wet mash of chick starter and see that she's drinking well. Provide the vitamins and see if she improves.

Symptoms of Coccidiosis include lethargy, ruffled/puffed up appearance, not eating/drinking and loose droppings with mucous or blood.

There are 9 strains of Coccidia that affect chickens. Only 2 produce blood in the stool, so while it's wise to check poop for blood, going by behavior and droppings would be important.
