Cocci: RIP little Puff

Questions about the Poly-Vi-SolMultivitamins. I picked some up today and I put a few drops in the 3 sickest ones mouths. Am I supposed to be waiting till they are done with their Sulmet? Or is it okay to give them at the same time?

I'm so very sad to say that my little Puff lost her battle this evening. She died in my arms right before she was due for her next feed. She snuggled down into the towel and just went limp. I hate that I failed her, but she isn't suffering anymore. Maybe she's up there in the sky doing goofy Silkie frolicking. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and advice. I've learned a lot about Cocci through this, and I know what to do next time. It was just too late, her little system was shot.

I'm sorry you lost her. You fought the good fight. Even better prepaired you could have lost her because Cocci hits Silkies hard.

I am so so so sorry for your loss....But you did all you could, and were able to let her know she was VERY love b4 she left this great earth....

Wow - I'm just so sorry about little Puff. She was such a fighter I had high hopes she would make it. I've been there, learned the lesson in a very hard way & all you can do is try to prevent a next time. I admit I am scared to death of cocci because I've seen how devastating it can be. Don't beat yourself up though - you certainly went above and beyond to try and save the little one.

Thanks folks... I think I just got a bit too hopeful with the improvements. We buried the little girl today, my daughter cried. Very sad, but she is free from the suffering of her illness. I feel silly being so sad over one Silkie out of a dozen, but you really get attached to the ones that need so much nursing like this.

Today I'll be bleaching out the area that she was in, bleaching the rest of the waterers and feeders, and put the other 3 back out, as they have continued to do just great. I've certainly learned to keep Cocci meds on hand, and next time I will know what is going on a lot faster than this time.

I guess now I can go back to worrying about my eggs in the bator- this is my first hatch and I'm sure I've killed them all by now, LOL.

Sorry for your loss. Now would be a good time to consider purchasing corid just in case. I wish you the best.

There was something I learned last year about coccidiosis. You can catch it early, and treat them until they're healthy again, but, it does leave damage, a little or alot. One of mine was treated, healthy again, but took months to recover from stunted growth. Sometimes the chickens are just left too damaged after the illness.
