I adopted 4 new hens last weekend- all born in march, and 2 are currently laying. Yesterday morning I went out to the coop and one hen had quite a lot of bloody diarrhea - there was a trail from the nesting box and through the run. There were a number of large blood clots.

I did some research and decided to treat them all for Cocci - from what I could tell it might be normal shedding of the intestinal lining (?) or it might be Cocci or some other parasite. Since I havent had these hens from hatching and I dont know much about them, it seemed like treating them was in their best interest. The hen is acting fine otherwise- shes eating an drinking, although no egg yesterday or this morning. This morning she still has diarrhea but no blood - so maybe that's an improvement? The store didnt have any Corid, so Im using Sumlet as directed on the label for chickens.

After theyre done being treated I'll give then a probiotic.

If anyone has any advice on this I would love to hear it.

There is a big difference at blood with clots and intestinal shed, so I think you made the right choice to treat them. Corid treats all of the 9-11 strains of coccidia in chickens, but Sulmet will treat the 2 worst strains which tend to cause bloody stools. Chickens moving from one home to another may be exposed to a strain of coccidia they are not immune to, and yours are still young enough to be developing immunity. Here are some good articles about coccidia for your reading:
