cocci???

what are the sighns of cocci? alot of my chickens keep getting sick and dying but there really not chicks. can teen chickens get it???

As far as I know, chickens of all ages are susceptible.....i think its just more prevalent in the younger ones. Do yours have blood in their poo? You can put them on a low dose corid from the co-op. The only kind I have been able to find is for calfs but its the same stuff....you just have to give them a much smaller dose. If the have respiratory problems though you will need to make sure they are warm in order to get them well and give them either sulmet or terramycin. All can be found at co-op or a local feed store. Do you have any idea what their symptoms are? If you get down real close and you can hear a clicking or rasping noise while they are breathing its probably respiratory related.

well i have had about four roosters die and now 1 of my hens are sick. they are lightweight but eat well and the just sit there in the coop all by them selves and at night it seems like they are to weak to fly up to the roost so they sleep on the ground and when you pick them up and they fly out of your hands when they land they just fall over with their wings spread out they sometimes even do that when there just walking around and fall over

All chickens have a small amount of cocci in their body's. Its when there is an over load when the bird is depleted or very young birds does it ever become a problem.

Assuming everything that is wrong with a bird is cocci is the wrong thing to do.

The first thing I would investigate is worms if your birds have never been wormed. Or wormed with the inappropriate wormer. Take fecal samples to a vet to check it for parasites.

If you are having that kind of loss it would be good to call your state vet or your local vet and find out what the procedure is for having a necropsy done and any cost associated with it. Many states do this at no charge.
