I got some baby chicks from a local breeder. After seeing the conditions and the smell, I am very concerned. Ok so here we go, I bought 4 chicks. 3 silkies and 1 D' Uccle. On our way home, within five minutes, I opened the take home box and it really stunk. One chick has normal poo, but it is very small. Then there is some caramel colored and thick. the chicks are just laying around. They get up to drink if I make them. They are on medicated chick feed but I know that will not fix it. Does this sound like Cocci? What are the mixing instruction for Corid?

You might want to move this on the emergencies thread. I wish I could help but I don't have much experience yet.
Hopefully someone will see this soon. Do you have any Poultry Nutridrench?

How do I do that?

If your local feed/livestock store does not have Corid(amprolium)or might be called Amprol(amprolium)then call a vet and ask if they carry any. In Canada i have to purchase mine through a vet,you do not need to purchase entire bottle only about 500 ml(or less) this is the amount i purchase.

You can give them buttermilk which coats the intestines and may help until you find Corid. If you search forums, you will find other examples of what to give chicks until corid is available.

Do any of your neighbors have livestock,if yes ask if they can give you a small amount of Corid. The dose for Corid 9.6% liquid is 2 tsp per gallon of water, dose for Corid 20% powder is 1-1.5 tsp per gallon of water. Treat ALL chicks for 5 days,DO NOT give vitamins during treatment as they can interfere with the ability of coccidiostat to work, give vitamins after treatment is complete.

Note: Corid is found in the cattle section and will say for cattle, but is also used to treat poultry for coccidiosis and in my opinion one of the best coccidiostats as it will target approx 9 strains.

When I went there was a spot labled but it was empty but it was empty. My neighbor doesn't carry any medicine, Then we have a guy that raises cattle but he only comes to feed and vaccinate but I am not sure when he comes. He comes at different times every day.
