Coccidiosis and Roundworms

I picked this up today. They were out of the Safeguard. I hope this works just as well. I’ll begin their treatment when I get home.

I would order some Safeguard or Valbazen, personally. My Tractor Supply was out of Safeguard last time I looked also. I got it from Walmart online (the Safeguard liquid goat wormer) and it was here in 2 or 3 days. There are lots of online sources, Walmart had the best shipping for the price, since that's all I was getting.
Some parasites have become resistant to ivermectin.

Thanks for the info! I did see too that I should refrain from having eggs for about a month.

There are a lot of differing opinions on withdrawl times. One study on ivermectin showed egg residue showed up for 8 days following oral administration and 15 days following sub cutaneous administration.

Same study indicates it may have reduced efficacy in chickens.
Valbazin and Safeguard both are normally a 14 day withdrawl following dosing, so if you dose twice 10 days apart that would be 24 days. The medication types in valbazen and safeguard are also used in humans, the residue risk is mostly of a possible allergic reaction, or the tiny risk that you could breed a resistant parasite if the person eating them was carrying one. There are people who post here who follow the withdrawl and many who don't and I've never heard of anyone having a problem. But absolutely do what you are comfortable with.
This is a very good post about the various worms and medications:

This thread is about treating with Safeguard without any withdrawl necessary. It's more complicated (math) than doing it orally, but if you really want to avoid the withdrawl you can do it this way. I've never done it this way, others have and said it was effective.

I was looking online and someone put 3 pea-sized doses in a Tupperware with 9 tablespoons of water and shook it till it dissolved. They then put 5 drops on bread and gave it to each bird. It said to do it again in 14 days and had a 3 week withdrawal. This was for ivermectin.

Yes. More than 2 or 3 days on nutridrench may cause diahrea, so I wouldn't do it more than that. Nutridrench is good for a quick pick up with a sick or weak bird, if you just want to supplement vitamins, then I would look for a supplement intended for daily, long term use.

Okay thanks. I heard Nutri-Drench was good for them to have after Corid. If they seem fine though is it necessary for them to have it after the Corid?
