Yesterday I noticed bloody diarrhea under the roost in the morning and went to look at the girls and found Ruth one of my light Brahmas huddled and fluffed up. I’m assuming with the presentation that this is coccidiosis. She was not eating or drinking. We separated her in her own pen with her own food and water dosed with corid. She would not eat or drink so we gave her a corid drench since she was not looking good. She remained in the pen over night and looks no worse this morning although still have not seen her eat or drink. Back in the coop this morning, I found another one, Eleanor still in the coop puffed on the roost with bloody diarrhea under her. We dosed her with the drench and put her in with Ruth. The remaining flock looks ok the do have loose poops (no blood) I dosed the water for them but wondering if I should drench them as well or reserve that for only if they are not eating or drinking? These two sick girls went down fast. I don’t see blood in the others stool just really loose. My plan is to continue to dose the 2 real sick ones with a drench for 3 days total then if they are eating and drinking just finish out the water source for the full 7 days. Does that sound good? Thanks for any help you can provide, this is my first time dealing with coccidiosis and my first flock. Thanks!

We've always dosed everyone together. Yes, if one or two were particularly sick we took an unused incubator for a minor soundproofed sick bay for chicks. Or put larger ones in a box setup to more closely watch. But all the chicks at the same time is what we've done. Otherwise it just feels like whack a mole trying to sus out if another or who is next.

How much Corid are you using in the water. I would use 2 tsp per gallon for 5-7 days, and give the drench 0.1 ml of undiluted orally 1-2 times a days for any who are really sick. Then you can also treat with 1/4 of the water dose for an additional 5 days if needed. What are the ages? Have you wormed them recently?

They are 10 months old. They were wormed with valbazen maybe 4 months ago. I’ve been doing the powder 1 tsp per 1 gallon and the drench mixture I found on here was 1/2 tsp powder with 2 tsp water and give .34ml per pound of body weight. I don’t have the pre mixed liquid. I can increase the water dose. Does the drench dose seem ok? Thank you for your help!

0.1ml per pound of the 1/2 teaspoon in 2tsp water powder reconstitution? Or is that the dose of liquid solution? I only have the 20% powder and can’t give the powder undiluted. Sorry I’m new to this. Thank you for your help!

This may be a stupid question but is it ok that she’s not laying while sick? We ended up pulling her out as she was not improving and she seemed to be struggling to keep up appearances with the others. It’s also very hot so the sick pen is in the garage about 20 degrees cooler. Since she’s not really drinking much we were worried about the heat. We gave her some homemade electrolyte solution via syringe and she did eat some yogurt last night. I don’t see her drink but I’ve seen her peck at food once or twice. The other sick bird is much better already. Poops are still runny with some of them but they are all acting fine. Hoping Ruth pulls through. Should I be doing anything else? Anyway it’s not Coccidiosis? Thanks in advance!
